Persecution in Turkey
Over the past six months, vigilante groups in at least 5 Turkish cities have threatened Protestant church workers and attacked their places of worship. The Turkish media has also fanned intense criticism of Christian missionary activity. Even government ministers have claimed that foreign missionaries had political motives aimed at “damaging the social peace and unity of Turkey.” The latest attack threatened the safety of Pastor Wolfgang Hade of the Izmit Protestant Church. None of the attacks against Protestants have received coverage in the national press, in part because local Christians admit they are reluctant to be identified and harassed even further. At the same time, Turkey’s bid for EU membership means churches are now being allowed to register. This may bring mixed blessings, since leaders will then be identified. Hindu Youth Find Christ in Asia
Three young men from Hindu background who have been living at a Christian-run Hostel were baptized on May 17. RMM is assisting this ministry through financial support and leadership development. RMM’s regional director for Asia wrote that the three men “were born into Hindu families and are the first and so far the only believers in their families. The process by which the Hindu youth are coming to faith is usually a long one and the decision that confirms their faith is baptism. They have all spent several years living at the hostel.”

Please pray for these three young men as they follow Jesus and share Him with their family and friends. They live in a country that is approximately 86% Muslim and 13% Hindu.
Going to Greenwood?
CMC’s annual conference will be held in Greenwood, Delaware, from August 4-7, 2005, and RMM will be sponsoring several missions-related events. On Thursday evening the conference begins with Taste of Missions, an inspirational and challenging program featuring stories and highlights from RMM’s missionaries. This is a great chance to hear first-hand what God is doing around the world, meet and talk with RMM’s workers, and enjoy a variety of ethnic snacks.

The conference also includes Missions Day on Sunday, August 7. Columbia International University president George Murray will speak and there will be a commissioning service for RMM’s workers.
