Preparing to Bless Others
As the 2005 REACH training passed the midpoint, participant Chalee Helmuth wrote the following update.

“One house. Three months. Thirty-five people. Reality TV? Not quite. It is simply reality here at the SEND house…We are learning about being a blessing to others through teachings on evangelism, Christian world view, and spiritual warfare…Teams also spend several hours each week focusing on specific preparation for outreach…We are excited about what has taken place this training. It has not all been easy, but God has moved here in a powerful way.”

Exploring Thailand
Map of ThailandPaul Kurtz, RMM’s global missions director, and two board members recently joined regional director Dan Byler in Thailand for an exploratory visit. While there, they researched and prayed about options for RMM’s future involvement in that country. RMM plans to have a team living in Thailand by the fall of 2006 and is hoping to establish an intern training center in the Bangkok region.

Thailand is a predominantly Buddhist nation with a population of 65 million. Although Christian missionaries have been active in Thailand for more than 150 years, less than one percent of the population is Christian. Who’s on your Christmas List?
More than 20 projects from RMM’s 2005 Special Projects list remain in need of funding. Consider adding one of these to your Christmas list this year and give a much-needed gift to believers in antherSpecial Projects logo part of the world. Your contribution could provide sewing equipment for a children’s refuge in Ecuador, flooring for a church in Nicaragua, or travel expenses for an isolated congregation in Turkey. Missions Meal: Turkey
Increase your family’s world awareness as you prepare and eat this Turkish meal. These recipes from an RMM missionary are easy to prepare and use readily available ingredients. For a more authentic Turkish dining experience, sit on the floor around a table cloth to eat the meal.

Rice pilaf
1 cup rice
1 ½ cups water, boiling
1/8 cup small/fine noodles (or orzo)
2 tablespoons olive oil
2 chicken bouillon cubes
In medium sized pot sauté uncooked noodles in oil until lightly browned (about 1 minute), add rice and sauté until dry looking. Dissolve bouillon cubes in boiling water. Add to rice and stir. Cover and return to boil. Turn down to low and cook for 20 minutes. Turn off heat and put a paper towel under lid to absorb extra moisture. Let rest 5 to 10 minutes before eating.

Cacik
1 32 oz. container plain yogurt
1 medium cucumber, chopped fine
2 cloves garlic, crushed
1 teaspoon salt (or to taste)
Mix all ingredients together in a bowl. Sprinkle with dried peppermint, if available.

Middle Eastern Marinated Chicken
2 pounds boneless, skinless chicken breast, quartered
1 cup plain yogurt
2 tablespoons soy sauce
2 cloves garlic, crushed
½ teaspoon red pepper
½ teaspoon ginger
Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
Mix yogurt, soy sauce, garlic, and other seasonings. Pour mixture over chicken, cover, refrigerate and marinate for 4-8 hours. Bake chicken and marinade together for 1 - 1 ½ hours at 350 degrees. After baking, drain marinade, blend in blender, then pour over chicken as sauce.

Use this meal as an opportunity to learn more about Turkey and to pray for that country in the following ways.

  • Fewer than one percent of Turkey’s 69 million inhabitants are Christians. Pray for the growth of the Christian church.
  • Christians have recently faced increased levels of harassment and persecution. Pray that their faith would remain strong and that their response to their “enemies” would be a powerful witness.
  • Pray that God would call more workers to this area of His harvest field.
