Sunglasses drive – In conjunction with the medical team’s trip to Nicaragua, RMM is coordinating a drive for new or gently used sunglasses (all sizes of sunglasses are needed). Sunglasses may be brought to the annual CMC Annual Conference in Iowa this summer (drop off at the RMM display booth) or delivered to the RMM office anytime before the end of December. The medical team will then distribute the sunglasses in January. Levi Miller, who is helping organize this drive notes, “If we get enough sunglasses we will give a pair to each of the expected 1,500 to 2,000 patients. If not we will give only to those who don't receive anything else.”
Levi is also suggesting a contribution of $1.00 with every pair of sunglasses to offset shipping costs. The airline the Medical Mission Team uses charges $50 for the second check-on bag on international flights. Team members will only be taking one bag each, so any money donated will help cover the cost of extra baggage needed to transport the sunglasses and/or other medical equipment.
Since this is a special project for RMM, we want 100% of your contribution to go toward this project. Thus we will not be mailing contribution receipts in order to eliminate postage costs. Your cancelled check will satisfy the IRS requirement for tax deduction purposes. Please note, however, that you’ll need to contribute by check to satisfy this requirement (i.e. the IRS does not recognize a cash contribution as a valid tax-deductible contribution unless verified by an official receipt). To make a contribution, make your check payable to RMM, write “Nica Sunglasses Project” in the memo line, and mail to RMM, 9920 Rosedale Milford Center Rd., Irwin, OH 43029-9537.
Participating in the Sunglasses drive is an easy, practical, low-cost way to show God’s love to those in need. Let’s see how many pairs of sunglasses we can give!
